OCEANIA/AUSTRALIA - New on-line journal for Australian Catholic students in view of World Youth Day 2008 in Sydney

Thursday, 20 December 2007

Sydney (Agenzia Fides) - The Australian Catholic Students Association has launched a new on-line edition of its two monthly journal New Springtime. The publication aims to be “a journal of faith, culture and society”, a forum for students to meet and discuss themes inherent to Christian life. It will be virtual meeting place for sharing ideas and posing questions' Editor James Baxer said "We are uninspired by much that finds its way into print and that we must read in our studies. Our aim is to counter that by bringing you articles that express the truth and joy of the Christian message, wherever it is to be found."
“New springtime” is a phrase used by several recent popes to express what they have anticipated for the Church. Pope John Paul II employed the phrase frequently - “a new springtime of the Church”; “a new springtime of Christian life”; “a new springtime of faith and civil advancement"; “a new springtime of holiness”; “a new springtime of the Gospel”, said National President of the Australian Catholic Students Association Camillus O’Kane, who also said that in the coming months the Journal would be giving ample space to themes connected with preparations for World Youth Day in Sydney in July 2008 and that it intends to be a channel of evangelisation.
