Roma (Agenzia Fides) - Bishop Marcello Semeraro of the diocese of Albano, has announced that on Saturday 15 December at 5pm at the Basilica Cathedral of San Pancrazio Martire, the Church in Albano will gather to pray with and for Cardinal Angelo Sodano who will preside a solemn Eucharistic Liturgy on the occasion of his 80th birthday. “In this occasion we wish to express our sincere affection and esteem to Cardinal Sodano who for many years with discretion and consideration was very close to the diocese of Albano of which he is Titular” said Bishop Semeraro.
Cardinal Angelo Sodano was created a Cardinal by John Paul II on 28 June 1991 and assigned to the church of Santa Maria Nuova. The following day the Pope appointed him Secretary of State. On 10 January 1994 he was elevated to the rank of a Cardinal Bishop and titular of the Suburbicarian See Albano. In the years since Cardinal Sodano visited many of the parishes in the diocese of Albano, ordained priests and deacons and, in many ways and in various fields, encouraged important initiatives.
