ASIA/PHILIPPINES - Second International Congress on Education in Love, Sex and Life aims to stop anti-birth organisations from promoting immoral policies throughout Asia

Manila (Agenzia Fides) - The Second International Congress on Education in Love, Sex and Life (www.edicongress.com) 19 to 21 November 2007 will bring together in Manila (Philippines), over 700 experts in pedagogy, scholars and leaders of family realities in Asia, America, Europe and Australia, Reynaldo Rivera, a member of the organising committee told Fides. He said the Congress is important "speakers of international level will address various issues and it will be an opportunity to discuss ideas and ways to counter the activity of anti-birth organisations intent on promoting immoral policies all over Asia ". The first such Congress was held in 2006 in Mexico.
With the help of experts in the sector, participants at this year's Congress in Manila will examine and reflect on; the role of society and the family in Character Education and to strengthen values such as concern for others and self-control in affective behaviour, and maturity in young people; the impact of the media on the life of adolescents. In view of the Manila Congress two events have been planned: the presentation of a Report drafted in collaboration with Navarra University in Spain on Adolescent Life Style and a video/song Contest to present young people's attitude to these issues.
Congress Director, Antonio Torralba who is a teacher, explains "there is an international debate on the effectiveness of Sexual Education based on chastity and abstinence. The Congress organisers say that to be complete, education must include character education with regard to love, sex and life, the discovery of the value of chastity in human love and the fact the love begins in the family."
