AFRICA/DR CONGO - Appointment of Bishop of Buta

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Fr. Martin Banga Ayanyaki, O.S.A., until now regional vicar of the Order of Saint Augustine in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, as bishop of the diocese of Buta, Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Msgr. Martin Banga Ayanyaki, O.S.A., was born on 1 December 1972 in Dungu, in the administrative province of Haut-Uélé, Democratic Republic of the Congo. After completing his studies at Saint Augustine’s Philosophate, and in theology at Saint’Eugène de Mazenod University, he gave his solemn profession in Kinshasa on 30 November 2002 and was ordained a priest on 28 August 2003, in Poko, diocese of Dungu—Doruma.
After ordination, he first held the roles of deputy parish priest in Poko, diocese of Doruma-Dungu (2003-2006), advisor of the Vicariate of the Augustinians and parish priest in Poko (2006-2010), regional vicar of the Order of Saint Augustine (2010-2014), and pastoral collaborator at the Convent of Santa Maria del Popolo, Rome (2014-2020). He was awarded a doctorate from the Pontifical Gregorian University of Rome (2014-2020). Since 2022 he has served as regional vicar of the Order of Saint Augustine and professor of sociology and anthropology at the Saint Augustine University of Kinshasa. (EG) (Agenzia Fides, 15/4/2024)
