AFRICA/SUDAN - After the bombing of a Catholic hospital, mass displacement in Southern Kordofan

Khartoum (Agenzia Fides) - The European Union delegation for Sudan has expressed concern about the recent bombing of the Mother of Mercy Catholic Hospital in Gidel, near Kianda, the Nuba Mountains, condemned by Mgr. Macram Max Gassis, Bishop Emeritus of El Obeid (see Fides 06/05/2014). Meanwhile thousands of civilians continue to be affected by the hostilities resumed between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Movement for the Liberation of the Peoples of the North (SPLM-N) in the eastern part of South Kordofan. According to the UN Office for Humanitarian Affairs, 13,500 people have been displaced in areas under Government and other 90 000 towards SPLM-N. In all, more than 100 000 displaced people.
