New Delhi (Agenzia Fides) -The headmaster of St Vincent Pallotti Catholic School in south Delhi was seriously wounded by unidentified gunmen who broke into the school and into the headmaster's office on May 15. The men fired three shots at Pallottine Father George Philip one of which hit him in the chest wounding him seriously. The priest was rushed to hospital and his condition is grave. The 37 year old priest underwent surgery to remove the bullet, Fides was told by the Pallottine General House in Rome.
The local police have found no indication of a motive for what seemed like an attempted execution. At first it seemed liked a robbery, but the local Church said the reasons are deeper. The police are making an investigation.
In recent months Christian communities have noted a recrudescence of attacks on religious minorities in India, reporting the situation to the local authorities. Catholic schools, institutes and convents are very often the targets. (PA) (Agenzia Fides 18/5/2007 righe 23 parole 234)
