AFRICA/MALAWI - The Pope appoints Bishop of Mangochi

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) The Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI on 3 April appointed Rev. Fr. Alessandro Pagani, S.M.M., Bishop of Mangochi (Malawi). Until now Rev Pagani was Legion of Mary spiritual assistant and vice coordinator of the Italian Monfort mission in Malawi.
Rev. Alessandro Pagani, S.M.M., was born in Torre Boldone di Bergamo on 3 January 1937. He studied for the priesthood in Italy and obtained a degree in Spirituality at the Gregorian University in Rome. He made his profession as a member of the Company of Mary (Monfort Fathers), on 8 September 1959. He was ordained a priest on 13 March 1965 and has since ministered as follows: 1965-1968: Assistant to Monfort seminarians at Redona; 1969-1972: parish priest at Balaka; 1973-1976: parish priest at Nankhwal; 1977-1985: parish priest at Mpiri; 1986-1997: parish priest at Kalichero, Zambia; 1998-2001: Regional Superior for Africa of the Monfort Fathers; since 2001: Legion of Mary spiritual assistant di Maria; Vice Coordinator of Italian Monfort mission in Malawi.
