Tai Pei (Agenzia Fides) - For the past eight years the Catholic community in Taiwan has been a regular participant at Tei Pei’s traditional International Book Fair. At this 15th edition of the Fair 12 Catholic communications groups were represented: Kuang Chi Cultural Group (Jesuits), Branch Studium Biblicum (OFM), Wisdom Press (FSP), Costantinian Magazine (local Congregation of the Lord’s Disciples founded by Cardinal Celso Costantiti), Witness Magazine, Christian Life Weekly, Radio Veritas. According to the organisers while this year the number of Catholic visitors was slightly lower the number of other Christians was decidedly higher. Among the most popular and most sold books Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta and Her Works, The Writings of Saint John of the Cross and The Spiritual Exercises of St Ignatius of Loyola.
Christian Life Weekly bulletin issued by the diocese of Tai Pei said local Catholic Church leaders paid a visit to the Fair. Auxiliary Bishop Thomas and Mgr John Chen, secretary general of the Chinese Regional Bishops Conference were accompanied by Rev. Raymond Parent SJ, director of Kuang Chi Cultural Group and editors of various Catholic publications. During the week long Fair, 30 January - February 4 the Daughters of Saint Paul (FSP) sisters organised an original initiative called “I Wish……”. The Sisters encouraged visitors to write on the provided card any special prayer intention for a person, a country, the world, and in exchange receive a prayer-bracelet to remind them to pray and also that the Sisters would be praying with them. The bracelets bore the initials PUSH (Pray Until Something Happens). Over 900 visitors, mostly young people and many non Christians, left precious prayer intentions with the Sisters confident that God will hear and answer.
