ASIA/INDIA - The Pope appoints new Bishop of Purnea

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI on 20 January 2007 appointed Fr Angelus Kujur, S.I, until now director of the Jeevan Dhara in Raiganj, new Bishop of Purnea (India).
Fr Angelus Kujur, SJ was born on 14 July 1946 in the village of Mundaltoli, diocese of Purnea, state of Bihar. In 1968 he joined the Society of Jesus. He completed his studies in philosophy at Jnana Deepa Vidyapeeth in Pune, and in theology at the Jesuit Seminary in Vidyajyoti, Delhi. He was ordained a priest on 13 April 1980. Since then he has ministered as follows: 1981: six months parish pastoral work ; 1981-1985: studies for a Licentiate in psychology and spirituality at the Gregorian in Rome; 1985-1989: parish priest and then novice master at Jisu Jaher, Dumka; 1989-1995: first Provincial Superior of the Jesuit province of Dumka-Raiganj; 1996-2001: Novice Master St. Paul the Apostle’s College, Jisu Jaher, Dudhani, Dumka.
