EUROPE/SLOVENIA - New National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - Cardinal Ivan Dias, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples, on 27 October 2006, appointed National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Slovenia for a five year term (2006-2011), Rev. Stane Kerin of the clergy of the Archdiocese of Ljubljana.
Rev Stane Kerin was born in Straži pri Krškem, Slovenia, 3 December 1958. He attended minor seminary in Vipava. After military service in Mostar, he enrolled at the Faculty for Theology in Ljubljana. He obtained his degree in 1984, and was ordained on 29 June of the same year for the archdiocese of Ljubljana. He acted as assistant priest in a number of parishes. In 1992 he was appointed director of the diocesan Caritas office until 2003, when he was appointed parish priest at Šentvid pri Stični. He has been actively involved in missionary pastoral and has collaborated with Caritas Slovenia in several humanitarian and development projects in mission territories; in 1985 he was appointed member of the inter-diocesan Mission Council and in 1987, as part of a MIVA programme, he collected funds to purchase means of transport for mission territories.
