Vatican City (Fides News Agency) - The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Fr. León Dorado, O.M.I., until now apostolic prefect of the Western Sahara, as coadjutor archbishop of Rabat, Morocco.
Msgr. Mario León Dorado was born on 16 March 1974 in Madrid, Spain. After completing his studies in information technology at the Faculty of Information Sciences in Madrid, he was awarded a bachelor’s degree in theology from the San Dámaso Faculty of Theology in Madrid.
He gave his first religious vows on 15 September 1996 in the Congregation of Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate.
He was ordained a priest on 2 June 2001.
He has held the following offices: parish assistant in Jaén, Spain (2000-2004); in 2004 he was sent on mission in the apostolic prefecture of Western Sahara, and went on to serve as apostolic administrator (2009-2013).
Since 2013 he has held the role of apostolic prefect of Western Sahara, and since 2026, apostolic administrator of the archdiocese of Rabat.
