Monday, 10 July 2006

Seul (Agenzia Fides) - De gratia et libero arbitrio in Sant’Agostino was the theme of a Seminar on Patristics organised by the Korean Patristics Society to foster deeper reflection on Patristics and on the theology of Saint Augustine in particular. The director of the Society is Dominican Fr Simon Pietro Ri Hyong-hu.
The Seminar offered seminarians from all over the country an opportunity to become more familiar with the theology of the Fathers of the Church. The participants came from seminaries in Kwangju, Daejeon, Pusan and Suwon. Fr Vincent Choe Won, under-secretary of the Korean Bishops’ Conference and a member of the Korean Patristics Society said the Seminar was an “epochal event for the study and diffusion of Patristics in Korea contributing to the formation of the clergy”.
The organisers of the Seminar said all Korean Catholics, priests, religious, lay people as well as seminarians should strive to continue their Christian formation with ongoing study rediscovering the treasures handed down by the Church Fathers. They said they are convinced that the Church in Korea is called to enter a “new era”, in which it will be called to render present the message of Christ in the history of the third millennium. This perspective includes rediscovering Patristic tradition, strengthening roots of the faith in order to bear abundant fruit. (Agenzia Fides 10/7/2006 righe 25 parole 254)
