Awali (Agenzia Fides) - "Ministry of Catechist at our cathedral is like a well-orchestrated symphony, each member
playing a crucial role in harmonizing the spiritual growth of our community", said Rogy Joseph, Coordinator of Catechists of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Arabia, Awali, Bahrain. In an interview with Fides, he shares the great commitment that the diverse group of catechists has with thousands of faithful who frequent this sacred place of the Apostolic Vicariate of Northern Arabia, under the leadership of Bishop Aldo Berardi, O.SS.T.

"Picture the cathedral as a grand stage, and the catechists as dedicated performers, passionately sharing the teachings of faith. Our meetings - Rogy continues - are not just gatherings, they're moments of inspiration and collaboration. Catechists exchange ideas, share experiences, and draw strength from one another, creating a
supportive atmosphere that fosters growth. As the catechists step into their roles, it's evident that they are not merely instructors but mentors and guides on a sacred journey. They approach their tasks with a deep sense of responsibility, understanding the impact they have on the spiritual development of those under their care".
"Communication is key in this ministry. They work as a team, learning from each other and growing together in their shared mission. The smooth running of the catechists’ ministry is also attributed to the unwavering support from the cathedral leadership.
The encouragement of Bishop Aldo Berardi, Rector Father Saji Thomas, ofm cap., and the Director of Catechism, Father Nelson Lobo, their resources and their recognition fuel the passion of the catechists, reinforcing the significance of their vital role in the spiritual life of children".
"It is a very lively church, and our ministry alternates between moments of study and in-depth analysis, games with the children who attend catechetical classes and services. We try to pass down the faith and conviction and encourage them to pass it down and guide it with the same faith and the same love for God. The emblematic visit of Pope Francis to Bahrain (see Fides, 4/11/2022) was "an experience that will be remembered for a lifetime, a memorable moment for the ministry and for a group of students involved in the youth meeting were selected at the 'Sacred Heart School' in Isa Town".

Rogy is originally from Edathua, Kerala, India. He arrived in Bahrain at the age of 24, has a degree in Physics, a Master's degree in Economics and Finance and is an software specialist. "In 2000, I arrived alone to work at the Bank of Bahrain and Kuwait (BBK). In 2001, my family joined me and since 2001 I have been working as a software specialist in the government sector.
Since 2009 I have been in the Ministry of Catechists of Awali, and I am currently a member of the OLA Cathedral Council. On behalf of the Ministry of Catechists, we wish to thank our Bishop, Aldo Berardi, and the Rector, Father Saji Thomas, ofm cap., for their constant support, guidance and prayers", concludes the Coordinator.
The catechetical year 2023-24 of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Arabia began on September 29 and records a total number of 559 students, 31 catechists and 4 people who carry out administrative matters. (AP) (Agenzia Fides, 14/2/2024)
