Beijing (Agenzia Fides) - With Eucharistic adoration, common recitation of the Rosary, fasting and prayer for peace in the world and in the Holy Land, the land of Jesus, the Catholic parishes of Beijing joined Pope Francis' call to celebrate Tuesday October 17th to be dedicated to prayer and fasting for peace in the Holy Land, following the previous request of the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, Cardinal Pizzaballa. In the parish of Nantang, dedicated to the Immaculate Concession and founded by Jesuit missionary Matteo Ricci, Eucharistic adoration began at eight in the morning, after the daily morning mass. By late afternoon, the pews were filled with youth, adults and elderly people praying for peace at various times. "They prayed for peace in the world, for peace in the Holy Land, for harmonious coexistence of all peoples and for the renunciation of prejudice," the congregation's Wechat account said. The suffering of the peoples ravaged by war in so many parts of the world is close to the hearts of Chinese Catholics. For days now, peace has been one of the concerns that the faithful pray for at every Mass in the parishes and at the prayer times of the grassroots communities. “Together with Pope Francis and the universal Church, we address our supplication, our cry for peace and our cry against war to the Lord,” said the messages distributed online by the parishes. We also pray that "humanitarian corridors will be opened so that children, the sick, the elderly and all the people in the population have a thread of hope," says Catholic Maria Guo to Fides.
