OCEANIA/PAPUA NEW GUINEA - Appointment of the Rector of the Good Shepherd Major Seminary

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On 6 June 2023, Cardinal Luis Antonio G. Tagle, Pro-Prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelization, appointed the Rev. Paul Walua of the diocesan clergy, as Rector of the Good ShepherdMajor Seminary of the Archdiocese of Mount Hagen. The new Rector was born on 26 December 1972 and completed his secondary education at Fatima High School (1987-1990). From 1995 to 1996 he continued his studies at St. Fidelis Minor Seminary and then continued his studies at Good Shepherd Seminary (1997-1999). From 2000 to 2001 he completed the Spiritual Pastoral Year and then continued his studies at the Institute of Catholic Theology in Bomana (2002-2004). In 2005 he began his diaconal ministry in the Archdiocese of Mount Hagen and on 19 April 2006 he was ordained a priest for the same ecclesiastical circumscription. As a priest he carried out the pastoral ministry as Chaplain of Baisu Prison (2006-2007); after he was appointed Parish Priest of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish in Warup (2007-2012). From 2013 to 2014 he studied Master of Arts in Theology at the University of Notre Dame in Sydney, Australia. Upon his return to the country he was sent to the Parish of St. Anzelmo in Banz as parish priest (2015-2020). At the same time he taught as a visiting professor at the Good Shepherd Seminary. From 2021-2022 he was vice-rector of the seminary. He has continued his services at the Seminary since 2023. (EG) (Agenzia Fides, 28/9/2023)
