ASIA/INDONESIA - Resignation and appointment of the Bishop of Banjarmasin

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On July 8, 2023, the Holy Father Francis accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Banjarmasin, Indonesia, presented by Bishop Petrus Boddeng Timang.
The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Fr. Victorius Dwiardy, O.F.M. Cap., until now definitor general of the Franciscan Order of Friars Minor Capuchin, as bishop of the same diocese.
Msgr. Victorius Dwiardy, O.F.M. Cap., was born in Sebalos, archdiocese of Pontianak, on 14 December 1968. After entering the novitiate of the Capuchins of Parapat, he continued his philosophical and theological studies in the Interdiocesan Major Seminary of Pematangsiantar, Sumatra. He gave his religious vows in 1997 and was ordained a priest on 10 October 1998.
After ordination, he first held the roles of deputy parish priest of the Cathedral of Pontianak (1998-2001) and of St. Fransiskus Asisi in Tebet, Jakarta. He studied for a degree in civil law at the Christian University in Jakarta (2002-2008). He went on to serve as president of the Dharma Insan Foundation (2008-2013); chancellor of the archdiocese of Pontianak (2008-2012); counsellor of the Capuchin Province of Pontianak (2009-2012); and provincial minister of the Capuchins of Pontianak (2012-2013). Since 2013 he has held the office of definitor general of the Franciscan Order of Friars Minor Capuchin in Rome, currently in his second mandate, and since 2020, with responsibility for the Asia-Pacific Region.
