Wednesday, 17 May 2006

Dar es Salaam (Fides Service) - MAC, the “Mission Awareness Committee” of the Association of Religious Superiors in Tanzania, recently held its 23rd Meeting at Mbingu Conference Centre in Mahenge diocese, chaired by Fr. Gorge Kibura, IMC. Among those present Esther Chilambo MAC secretary and director of Radio Tumaini (Radio Hope in Swahili) Dar es Salaam, Fr. Nicodemus Hindoy OFM Cap, co-ordinator and Fr. Joseph Healey MM, active member for many years as well as 17 MAC members, priests, men and women religious and five lay persons. Initially MAC was composed only of priests and brothers representing the respective missionary institutes present in Tanzania.
According to CISA, the participants produced a special radio programme in support of Basic Ecclesial Communities as a primary channel for evangelisation. The radio programme “Sisis Sote Ni Wamissionari” (“we are all missionaries”) will be broadcast on the first Monday of every month by Radio Tumaini of the archdiocese of Dar es Salaam.
For some time the members of MAC had become increasingly aware of the need to involve Basic Ecclesial Communities in the activity of evangelisation and mission awareness building. Apart from the fact that the number of foreign missionaries in Tanzania continues to fall it is the duty of every Christian to shoulder responsibility for proclaiming the Good News to all peoples.
