Maumere (Agenzia Fides) - The XXXI World Day of the Sick, celebrated by the Catholic Church on February 11, 2023 (see Fides, 10/2/2022), was a precious opportunity to also bring together the Camillians (MI) of Indonesia with their 70 seminarians in the Saint Camillus chapel of the civil hospital of Maumere, island of Flores.
"The ceremony, which we celebrated here in Maumere on Sunday February 12, with a solemn concelebration of the Eucharist of prayer for all the sick in the world, was particularly attended by several patients, doctors, nurses, friends and relatives of the sick", wrote Fides Fr. Luigi Galvani to Fides.
The MI missionary, who works in Flores, described some of the most meaningful events shared together with the most vulnerable people. "The visit to the sick made by a group of doctors and nurses, as well as by several Camillian seminarians, to accompany the priests in the administration of the sacrament of anointing, was another touching moment - adds the missionary. Each patient was also offered a small rose, symbol of good luck, as well as some small gifts which brought smiles of joy and words of gratitude to many suffering faces.
"On the same day, a group of seminarians also visited dozens of sick and elderly people in the villages of the neighboring parish, bringing Holy Communion and simple gifts." It was a precious occasion during which Camillians and seminarians felt like a big family and, once again, became the "living continuators" of the charism of their founder, Saint Camillus, who saw in the sick the very face of Jesus.
