AFRICA/SENEGAL - Appointment of the Rector of the Libermann Major Seminary, in Dakar

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On March 1, 2022, Cardinal Luis Antonio G. Tagle, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, appointed Rev. Alphonse Diomaye Niane, of the clergy of the archdiocese of Dakar as Rector of the "Libermann" interdiocesan Major Seminary in Sebikhotane, in the archdiocese of Dakar, Senegal.
The new Rector was born on September 4, 1976 in Mbodiène, and was ordained a priest on June 29, 2002 in the Cathedral of the Archdiocese of Dakar. After the minor Seminary, he studied philosophy at the Saint Jean-Marie Vianney major Seminary in Brin, and theology at the Libermann major Seminary in Sebikhotane. After his ordination he was parish vicar in two parishes, then in Rome (2009-2012) he obtained a licentiate in theology and patristic sciences at the Augustinianum Patristic Institute.
Back in Senegal he was professor at the Libermann major Seminary, general Secretary of the Archdiocese of Dakar, chancellor, personal Secretary of Cardinal Sarr, episcopal Vicar for formation, Head of seminarians, Animator of the ongoing formation of young priests. He obtained a doctorate in theology, patristic option, at the Saint Esprit University of Kaslik, in Lebanon. (SL) (Agenzia Fides, 18/11/2022)
