Caracas (Agenzia Fides) - According to a very ancient tradition, in Venezuela the month of October has always been dedicated to reflecting with greater attention on the centrality of the Word of God in the life of every Christian and in evangelization. The Venezuelan Church also celebrated in July its second National Pastoral Assembly on the theme "A missionary parish that goes forth for the new times" (see Fides, 12/7/2022), and Pope Francis has asked the universal Church to reflect on the theme of synodality. For these reasons, the motto chosen for this month of October is "Let's walk together in the parish community with the Word of God". "This Month of the Bible must induce us to leave, to walk together, leaving everything else behind" is written in the handout prepared for this circumstance.
The Commission for Biblical Animation of Pastoral Care, of the Bible and Catechesis Department of the Venezuelan Bishops' Conference (CEV), therefore proposes a series of activities with the aim of motivating believers to approach the Word of God and to become its heralds. Among these, the Pastoral Animation of the Bible Course, organized in collaboration with the National Institute of Pastoral Care (INPAS) of CEV, which registered the participation of about 500 pastoral workers from all corners of Venezuela. The course, which lasts 2 weeks, was aimed at strengthening knowledge of the nature of biblical animation and how to apply it in different realities.
In addition, a series of virtual conferences on biblical themes have been scheduled, with representatives specialized in the Bible, every Wednesday in October.
A group of Venezuelan biblical scholars has also drawn up a handout in digital form to deepen the prayerful reading of the Word of God with a focus on the theme of synodality. "May the Lord grant us - it is written in the introduction of the handout- the experience of a Biblical and Synodal month of October, which increases in us the joy of walking together on the stable rock of the Word of God and of being sent to announce the redemptive love of Jesus to all, especially to those who have the greatest need for courage and hope".
