EUROPE/ITALY - “Hospitality: a charisma to witness”, 19th General Chapter, Hospitaller Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus

Rome (Fides Service) - From 5 to 29 in Rome May the Hospitaller Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus will hold their 19th General Chapter on the theme “God’s Healing, good news for the men and women of today”. The congregation was founded by Saint Benedetto Menni of the St John of God Brothers. Participants will come for 24 different countries in Europe, Asia, Africa and America. The event is important for the Sisters and also for 8,000 other people working in various departments of the Congregation’s hospitals especially psychiatric hospitals.
The Chapter will elect a new Superior general and her council, here reports on how the congregation has developed, and reflect deeply on the Congregation’s hospital charisma and the identity. The chapter will also discuss how to increase awareness in society of a misleading culture with regard to mental illness, other forms of exclusion, and the knowledge and value of the world of suffering and healing. The Chapter members will also discuss cooperation in projects of solidarity in the light of the Sisters presence with many hospitals, homes for mental health problems, rehabilitation of children in developing countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America.
The Congregation offers quality service which is integral, welcoming, respectful, personal, interdisciplinary thanks to advanced professional formation combined with special attention to ethics on both the organisation and clinical levels. A mission which takes into consideration the person in his or her physical, psychic, spiritual and relational dimension regardless of ideology, religion or culture. The end of the Chapter will coincide with the start of celebrations for the 125th anniversary of the founding of the Congregation at Ciempozuelos, Madrid, Spain, 31 May 1881. (S.L.)
