Brasilia (Agenzia Fides) - The mass that will be celebrated today, August 1, at 7 pm, in the Chapel of Our Lady of Aparecida, at the headquarters of the Brazilian Bishops' Conference (CNBB) in Brasilia, will mark the national opening of the Vocation Month. Presided over by the Bishop of Novo Hamburgo and President of the Commission for Ordained Ministries and Consecrated Life of the CNBB, Msgr. João Francisco Salm, the celebration will be broadcast by Catholic-inspired broadcasters and by the social networks of the CNBB and the Conference of Religious of Brazil ( CRB). Immediately after Mass, at 9 pm, the basic text of the Vocation Year of Brazil will be illustrated live, which will be celebrated in 2022-2023 on the theme "Vocation: grace and mission".
According to the note from the CNBB, the Vocation Month of August wants to help the whole Church of Brazil to bear witness to the center of the Christian faith: "Jesus is risen, he has overcome death and calls us to be witnesses of him in the midst of this world". "May this Vocation Month warm the hearts of every person, of every Christian for this vocational awakening of the whole Church. The Church always lives her vocation as a grace and mission, because Jesus is alive and we are witnesses", wishes the Commission for the ordained ministries and the consecrated life of the CNBB. In 2022, the theme chosen for the August Vocation Month is "Christ lives! We are his witnesses" and the motto is "I have seen the Lord!" (Jn 20:18). During the month of August there will be online meetings inspired by the theme of the Month, always on Saturdays, at 10 am, with the aim of promoting reflection and vocational interaction.
The Vocation Month precedes the Vocation Year by a few weeks, which will be celebrated for the third time by the Church in Brazil, from 20 November 2022 to 26 November 2023. The initiative commemorates the 40th anniversary of the first thematic year dedicated to reflection, prayer and the promotion of vocations in the country, and is inspired by the final document of the Synod of Bishops on "Young people, faith and vocational discernment". To deepen the theme, the CNBB has published a basic text "to encourage each person to accept the call of Jesus as Grace". Handouts for children and adolescents, with reflections presented in a playful and pedagogical way, as well as a colorful and detachable booklet with games and activities has been prepared.
