AFRICA/KENYA - Resignation and appointment of bishop of Maralal

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) – The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Maralal, Kenya, presented by Bishop Virgilio Pante, I.M.C.
The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Fr. Hieronymous Joya, I.M.C., until now professor of the Philosophical Seminary of the Institute of Consolata Missionaries in Nairobi, as bishop of the diocese of Maralal, Kenya.
Msgr. Hieronymous Joya, I.M.C., was born on 17 April 1965 in Asinge, diocese of Bungoma. He was awarded a diploma in sales management, marketing and communication. In 1990 he entered the Institute of Consolata Missionaries, giving his perpetual vows on 8 November 1997. He completed his studies in philosophy at the Consolata Institute of Philosophy (1990-1993) and in theology at Tangaza University College in Nairobi (1994-1998).
He was ordained a priest on 5 September 1998. After ordination he first held the offices of parish vicar and parish priest of the Loiyangalani Catholic Mission in the diocese of Marsabit (1998-2003) and rector of the Philosophical Seminary of the Institute of Consolata Missionaries in Nairobi (2003-2005). He studied for a licentiate in pastoral theology from the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) (2005-2007), and went on to serve as diocesan pastoral coordinator and director fo the Blessed Joseph Allamano Pastoral Centre in the diocese of Maralal (2007-2008); vice superior (2008-2011) and regional superior of the Consolata Missionaries in the Kenya-Uganda Region (2011-2016). From 2016 to the present, he has served as professor in the Philosophical Seminary of the Institute of Consolata Missionaries, and is studying for a doctorate in pastoral theology at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) of Nairobi.
