Mexico City (Agenzia Fides) - "All the limits of violence and human respect are overcome when a man of God is attacked and another is attacked within the house of the Lord, who deserves all our respect. We ask everyone once again to lay down their arms and put an end to all forms of violence, so that we can all be peacemakers. Nobody has the right to make an attempt on his brother's life and there is nothing to justify such violence". This is reiterated by the Mexican Episcopal Conference (CEM) in a message that comments on the latest acts of violence that have occurred in Mexico, entitled "We can all be builders of peace. Nobody has the right to make an attempt on their brother's life": The document is dated May 20 and is signed by the President of CEM, Monsignor Rogelio Cabrera Lopez, Archbishop of Monterrey; by the Vice President, Gustavo Rodriguez Vega, Archbishop of Yucatan, and by the Secretary General, Monsignor Ramon Castro Castro, Bishop of Cuernavaca.
The Bishops are saddened by the murder of Father José Guadalupe Rivas, of the archdiocese of Tijuana and of the person who accompanied him (see Fides, 19/5/2022) and we send our deepest condolences to the families of the two murdered, as well as to the Archbishop of Tijuana, and to his entire Church.
The other episode of violence that the Bishops cite in their communiqué is the murder of a three-year-old boy inside the church of Ntra. Sra. De Guadalupe in Fresnillo Zacatecas, where gunmen entered the temple chasing a man, who was wounded.
Finally, they exhort us to continue to pray "so that our authorities find the best paths of peace and security that we all need and desire ... so that criminals repent and change their lives ... so that we all become peacemakers". (SL) (Agenzia Fides, 23/5/2022)
