Tuesday, 17 May 2022

Lyon (Agenzia Fides) - Lyon is preparing for the beatification celebrations next Sunday for the foundress of the Pontifical Society for the Propagation of the Faith, Pauline Jaricot (see Fides, 3/5/2022).
In the course of this week, Catholic media will publish in-depth analyzes and background information, scheduled conferences and round tables, up to a digital platform and a novena of prayer for the new blessed, all of which are intended to deepen the life, work and charism of Pauline Jaricot.
The French Pontifical Mission Societies, which have been preparing for this great event for some time, are also organizing this year the General Assembly of the Pontifical Mission Societies, which will be held this week in Lyon, and will be responsible for media relations so that the celebrations reach as many people as possible.
The Catholic media, in particular, RCF (Radio chrétienne francophone) offer extensive coverage of Pauline Jaricot on a daily basis. One of the guests of the programs is the national director of the Pontifical Mission Societies, Bishop Georges Colomb. The beatification mass will be broadcast by the Catholic television channel KTO Télévision Catholique.
The faithful can also join the novena of prayer for Pauline Jaricot every day on the website of the Pontifical Mission Societies in France, which offers a prayer aid focused on a theme related to the life or charism of the new blessed.
On May 20th, an exhibition will open at the Fourvière Museum (open to visitors until August 20th) that will follow the visitor in the footsteps of Pauline Jaricot and place her character in the context of the Church of the time and the history of her city .
A symposium on "The fruitfulness of a charism: Pauline Jaricot, the missionary work of the Church and the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples" will be held at the Valpré Congress Center in Lyon on Saturday morning from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with the participation of historians, theologians and missionaries. The National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies will welcome the participants, after which lectures will be given by Pierre Diarra, expert in theology, history of religions and religious anthropology, and by the historian Catherine Masson, who has written an extensive biography of Pauline Jaricot, and Bernadette Truchet, who also runs the Documentation Center of the Pontifical Mission Societies in France, followed by historian Claude Prudhomme and finally Father Dinh Anh Nhue Nguyen, General Secretary of the Pontifical Missionary Union. A panel discussion will follow, moderated by Father Vincente Sénéchal, Superior General of the MEP (Missions Étrangères de Paris), with contributions from missionaries and national directors of the Pontifical Mission Societies from different parts of the world which will also focus on the figure of Pauline Jaricot. Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, will close the event. (EG) (Agenzia Fides, 17/5/2022)
