Seoul (Agenzia Fides) - The Catholic Archdiocese of Seoul regularly sends priests who will offer their pastoral ministry ad gentes in foreign lands at the service of the universal Church, under the sign of preaching the Gospel. As announced by a note from the Archdiocese of Seoul sent to Fides, the Archdiocese is sending two priests this year, Fr. Taegon Andrew Kyung-mo Yang, who will serve in the Archdiocese of Monterrey, Mexico, and Fr. Peter Kyoung-jin Kim, who will serve in the diocese of Hsinchu, Taiwan.
Organized by the "Department of Overseas Missionaries" in the Archdiocese of Seoul, the solemn "Sending Mass" of overseas missionary priests was celebrated on May 4, 2022 in Myeongdong Cathedral, presided over by Msgr. Peter Chung Soon-taick, OCD, Archbishop of Seoul. Bishop Benedictus Hee-song Son, Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Seoul, Bishop Job Yobi Koo, Episcopal Vicar for Overseas Missionaries of the Archdiocese of Seoul and 32 diocesan priests concelebrated, in the presence of an assembly of 400 faithful Catholics, including family members of the sent priests.
In his homily, Archbishop Chung emphasized the important role that the Archdiocese of Seoul has always played in evangelization, encouraging the sending of priests, religious and laity ad gentes. The prelate urged priests to always pray to God, especially in difficult times, and to seek comfort and grace in the presence of the Lord. At the same time, he recommended that priests respect the different cultures and people they meet in their ministry and seek an encounter with God who lives in them. He added, "When you return to Korea, you will be called upon to share the love you have received through this valuable missionary experience". Currently, 21 missionary priests from the Archdiocese of Seoul are active in 11 countries around the world, preaching the Gospel and serving the local Churches. (PA) (Agenzia Fides, 5/5/2022)
