Sydney (Agenzia Fides) - "As Bishops of Australia, we join the Holy Father and the faithful around the world in this act of Consecration and invite everyone to join us in prayer for peace in Ukraine. We invite people to dedicate part of the day of March 25 to prayer, by attending Mass, praying with family or friends, gathering silently in a parish or chapel, or in any other way possible".
This is the invitation that the President of the Australian Bishops' Conference, Archbishop Mark Coleridge, addressed to the faithful of the country on behalf of all the Australian Bishops, on the occasion of the solemn Act of Consecration of Ukraine and Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, which Pope Francis celebrates today, March 25, in St. Peter's Basilica.
In the note sent to Fides, Archbishop Coleridge points out: "On the feast of the Annunciation, when the Church celebrates Mary's 'yes' to God's call, it is the right day for this consecration, the day when the world says 'yes' to the call for peace. Even if Pope Francis performs the act of consecration late at night in Australia, let us not forget to pause and turn to Jesus, the Prince of Peace, the one who tells us that peace is possible in a world so badly wounded by war, in Ukraine and elsewhere".
"Thousands of people have died, millions have fled and millions more live in fear. Let us raise our hearts, minds and voices to God to put an end to this horrific violence and destruction", concluded the Archbishop. (LF/PA) (Agenzia Fides, 25/3/2022)
