Cairo (Agenzia Fides) - Only if Lebanon is neutral in relation to the global and regional balance of power confronting it in the Middle East will it be possible for Lebanon to "regain its position" and its positive role in favor of peaceful coexistence between nations, peoples and to re-engage with faith communities in the Middle East. This was confirmed by the Lebanese Cardinal Béchara Boutros Raï during his meeting with the Secretary General of the Arab League, Ahmad Aboul Gheit, in Cairo. The meeting, held at the organization's headquarters on Monday, March 21, was among the highlights of the Maronite Patriarch's visit to Egypt. In this context, Aboul Gheit expressed the Arab League's support for the perspective of "Lebanese neutrality" advocated by the Patriarch. During his stay in Egypt, Cardinal Raï also met Coptic Catholic Patriarch Ibrahim Isaac Sidrak and was received by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al Sisi, Coptic Orthodox Patriarch Tawadros II and Sheikh Ahmed al Tayyeb, Grand Imam of Al Azhar.
