Accra (Agenzia Fides) - The Archbishop of Tamale and President of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Ghana, His Exc. Mgr. Philip Naameh, said that no ethnic group in Ghana should feel too small to contribute to the growth of Ghana. "To further develop our independence, no one can afford to assume that it is too small, no ethnic group must assume that it is too small to make up the whole nation", he said in a television interview. "In this way we will be able to develop the Ghanaian culture and national spirit, because all the ethnic groups in Ghana have something to offer to the whole of society", said Bishop Naameh, who expressed his conviction that if a part of Ghana were hit by a catastrophe, all Ghanaians would mobilize quickly to help people in need. The call for unity in the diversity of the ethnic groups that make up Ghana is important in a country where there are latent conflicts, especially in the northern and eastern regions. In early March, Monsignor Naameh, who is also president of the Northern Regional Peace Council, called a meeting in Tamale to deepen collaboration between religious leaders and the media as part of efforts to improve interreligious coexistence.
Msgr. Naameh has launched an appeal to the traditional authorities to resolve in writing disputes over land, which often degenerate into conflicts. The Archbishop has urged citizens to respect the law and collaborate with security personnel to prevent violence in the region. (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides, 23/3/2022)
