VATICAN - "Caritas Celebrating Women": promoting female leadership

Tuesday, 8 March 2022

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - "Increasing visibility and giving space to the voice of women allows us to see how society and the Church flourish when all the people of God are able to contribute their gifts and skills in serving the poorest and most vulnerable", declared Aloysius John, secretary general of Caritas Internationalis, on the occasion of the seminar “Women builders of dialogue” organized by the Catholic organization in collaboration with the UK Embassy to the Holy See.
The event, which will be held today, March 8, International Women's Day, is a call to all men and women to work together, through testimony, dialogue and action, to promote greater leadership, equality and participation of women in society. "The importance of the contribution of women in decision-making for comprehensive human development, peacebuilding and fraternal cooperation in the context of Caritas initiatives, but not only, are the cornerstones on which the meeting will focus", reads the note sent to Fides.
This year’s Day will mark the start of an entire month dedicated by Caritas Internationalis to promoting women's participation, equality and leadership in Church and society.
"Through this month-long initiative, we hope to inspire ongoing conversations, creativity and collaboration on the inclusion and participation of women in Caritas initiatives and in society at large".
'Caritas Celebrating Women' wants to be an expression of the permanent commitment to promoting women's leadership, "so that all people can work in fraternal cooperation and solidarity for the integral development of humanity, especially the poor, the marginalized and the most vulnerable, in a post-COVID-19 context".
