AMERICA/ARGENTINA - Pain for the sacred images desecrated in a parish in Pehuajó

Monday, 31 January 2022 desecration

Santo Domingo (Agenzia Fides) - "It is an objective desecration of images which are loved and venerated. A wound to the believing sensibility of the parishioners, as well as a serious damage to the community's artistic and cultural heritage. However, please have mercy and forgiveness towards the person who performed such actions in a clear state of alteration and alienation of his faculties.
Let's pray for him". These are the words of Monsignor Ariel Torrado Mosconi, Bishop of the diocese of Santo Domingo en Nueve de Julio, after the damage to some sacred images venerated in the parish of "San Anselmo" in the city of Pehuajó, which took place on January 26th.
In the communiqué of the diocese, also signed by the parish priest, the Bishop expresses shock and pain, together with his closeness and solidarity with the entire community. "While we contemplate the desecrated images of the Lord Jesus and his Saints - continues the text - we cannot help but think of many people whose lives are also broken and shattered by family disintegration, addictions, violence, abuses and many other forms of manipulation and injustice". By venerating these damaged blessed images, the Bishop exhorts us to show solidarity with those people - images and likeness of God - who are equally oppressed in so many different ways in their dignity.
Inviting to the Mass of reparation and to join "spiritually in the many acts of reparation that will take place in these days in various places in our diocese", the Bishop urges "to live this painful situation as an opportunity to unite more in building the Church as a living temple of Christ".
