Port Moresby (Agenzia Fides) - The COVID-19 pandemic has opened up new ways of connection and communication, networking and learning. Among these, the School of Formation for Social Communications, an online program launched by Fr Gildàsio Mendes, Councilor for Social Communications, of the Salesians of Don Bosco, together with the Department of Social Communications, who encouraged each province from the Congregation of Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands to participate.
"The sessions are centered on the spirituality of communication", writes Fr. Ambrose Pereira, SDB, Delegate for Social Communications of the Conference of Bishops of Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands (CBC SOCOM). "Each session aims to deeply understand the connection between spirituality and communication. It helps us to reflect on the different areas of communication, whether interpersonal, intrapersonal, institutional or organizational. It gives us a more complete understanding of the theory, practice and philosophy of communication". "Thanks to this project - explains Fr. Pereira - we want to reinforce the idea that communication is not the only use of technological tools, but rather the transmission of a message that emerges from the depths of one's being, a message of which one is convinced, and which has stood the test of time. A lived message that is conveyed by our lives and that is strengthened by our words and images, our publications and our productions". The launch of the program in the different regions required several months of planning, regional discussion and consultation of local realities. The school will end in Valdocco in 2024.
