Yamoussoukro (Agenzia Fides) - An authentic "missionary tour" crosses the four ecclesiastical provinces of the country and will end on December 18. The initiative was organized on the occasion of the missionary month of 2021 by the Direction of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) of Ivory Coast. At the base of this special journey, with testimonies, initiatives, encounters, is the need to make the Pontifical Mission Societies and their activities better known to priests and lay religious.
"This missionary journey, undertaken at the beginning of October, strongly supported by the Catholic Bishops of Ivory Coast, intends to sensitize the faithful of all ages on the theme of mission and create an opportunity for exchange and meeting in order to make the work of the PMS known", explains Father Jean-Noël Gossou, National Director of the PMS of Ivory Coast to Fides.
After having crossed the ecclesiastical province of Korhogo between October 4 and 11, the tour is currently in Bouaké, to then continue in November (12-22) in the ecclesiastical province of Gagnoa and end in December in Abidjan (November 24 - December 18). "The Missionary Month is an opportunity to awaken missionary awareness in all priests, men and women religious, laity and families. And for this reason, I invite you all to become aware of our missionary vocation and to assume the commitment to walk in the footsteps of the apostles and the first missionaries".
The first fruits of this tour were already seen at the end of the first stage, when Archbishop Ignace Dogbo Bessi, Metropolitan Archbishop of Korhogo, appealed to all the faithful "to be generous in their support to the PMS". The members of the lay apostolate also came to have a deeper understanding of the work of the PMS and are therefore more motivated to engage in evangelization. In addition to this missionary trip organized and carried out by the national office of the PMS in Ivory Coast, during the month of October, all the dioceses participated in pastoral activities organized to raise awareness of the People of God.
