EUROPE/ITALY - Bambino Gesu Children’s Hospital opens new Patients’ Family Home

Monday, 6 March 2006

Rome (Fides Service) - A new Home for family members of child patients in need of a long period of hospital treatment at Bambino Gesu Children’s Hospital will be opened on Thursday 9 March..
The Home, not far from the Hospital, is a restructured villa built in the 1920s surrounded by 1,200 sq. mt. of parkland. The Hospital took this initiative in order to offer a place for family members with a child in need of lengthy hospital treatment to stay. Many families come from far away even from outside Italy and are often faced with painful separation or some makeshift accomodation.
The villa was given to the Hospital by Rome City Council and restructured and equipped thanks to donations by local businesses, families, and individual citizens who responded to a “We are setting up Home” campaign which collected 856,000 Euro in a month. The different rooms of the Home bear the name of the person or organisation which “adopted” it and paid for its restructuration. (AP) (Agenzia Fides 6/3/2006; Righe:19; Parole:197)
