Quito (Agenzia Fides) - The Bishops of 10 cities in Ecuador have sent a public letter to President Lenín Moreno asking for the resignation of the Minister of Health, Juan Carlos Zevallos. The Prelates ask President Lenin Moreno to authorize the use of a bleaching agent, chlorine dioxide, as an “alternative medicine” to treat COVID-19. The document also asks Moreno for the resignation of all officials who have proven to be "corrupt and inefficient" and among them the Minister of Health.
The Bishops declare that they feel outraged by news of bribery in reference to the apparent irregular delivery of documents for people with disabilities or to the alleged price premium in the purchase of supplies for nursing homes.
"On several occasions, communications have been sent to the Ministry of Health, but the responses have been negative on this matter", they indicate in the letter. (CE) (Agenzia Fides, 14/7/2020)
