AFRICA/MADAGASCAR - Appointment of the Auxiliary of Antananarivo

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father Francis appointed the Rev. Jean Pascal Andriantsoavina, of the clergy of Antananarivo, former Rector of the Philosophical major interdiocesan Seminary of Antsirabé, as Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Antananarivo (Madagascar), assigning him the titular see of Zallata.
The rev. Jean Pascal Andriantsoavina was born in Mitsinjo, in the diocese of Mahajanga, on March 24, 1969. In 1991 he began attending the preparatory Seminary, in 1992 he went to the philosophical major Seminary of Antsirabé for his philosophical studies; in 1997 he moved to the inter-diocesan major Seminary in Antananarivo, to complete his theological studies. He was ordained a priest on 5 August 2000.
Since his ordination he has held the following positions: Vicar of the Cathedral of Antananarivo and Chaplain of the Youth Eucharistic Movement (2000-2001); Youth Chaplain of the Archdiocese (2001-2003); Studies at the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome, completed with a licentiate in Sacred Scripture, residing at the Saint Peter Pontifical College (2003-2007); Prefect of Studies at the Philosophical Interdiocesan Major Seminary of Antsirabé (2007-2011); Rector of the philosophical interdiocesan major Seminary of Antsirabé (2011-2019). Since March 2019 he has worked in the parish and is engaged in translating the Bible of Jerusalem in the Malagasy language. (SL) (Agenzia Fides, 8/7/2019)
