Lae (Agenzia Fides) - "The role of communications in everyday life is fundamental. Not only does it help share information and knowledge, but it also contributes to developing relationships between people, and to forming a sense of community. For this reason the Catholic Church is present in the sphere of communications". This is what the bishop of the diocese of Lae, Mgr. Rozario Menezes says to Agenzia Fides, on the occasion of the opening ceremony of the new Catholic radio station officially inaugurated in the diocese - "Radio 103.7" and its motto is "The voice that nourishes faith".
"True communication offers concrete emotions, signals and messages. Pope Francis pointed this out by announcing the theme of this year's World Communication Day which quotes 'we are members one of another (Eph 4:25) - from communities to communities', recalls the Bishop, observing that "the new broadcaster will be a precious tool of evangelization, will strengthen relations in the different communities, even in remote places, and will serve to renew and consolidate the sense of the ecclesial community in the diocese".
Through this new tool, explained the Bishop of Lae, "we hope to reach in particular the poorest of the poor. We hope that its activities may expand in the coming years. In Papua New Guinea many people and many young people use social media and other modern technologies to communicate. As Church we have set ourselves in this direction, to be present and bring an evangelical word in these areas. We hope that this radio station can help improve people's lives", he concludes.
