AFRICA/MOZAMBIQUE - Auxiliary Bishop of Maputo appointed

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) – The Holy Father Pope Francis appointed Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Maputo (Mozambique) Rev. António Juliasse Ferreira Sandramo of the clergy of Chimoio, until now parish priest of the Cathedral, assigning to him the titular see of Arsennaria.
Rev. António Juliasse Ferreira Sandramo was born in Soalpo (Chimoio), province of Manica, 20 March 1968. Following primary and secondary schools in Soalpo he attended the Good Shepherd Propaedeutic Seminary in Beira (1988-1989), the St Augustine Inter-diocesan Philosophy Seminary in Matola (1990-1992) and the St Pius X Inter-diocesan Theology Seminary in Maputo (1993-1996). He was ordained a priest 28 June 1998 for the Diocese of Chimoio.
Since his ordination he has served as follows: 1998-2002 parish vicar Nossa Senhora Rainha do Moudo a Dombe and Nossa Senhora das Reliquias in Sussundenga; 1998-2001 Coordinator of the diocesan Liturgy Commission; 2001-2003 Coordinator of the diocesan Commission for Youth; 2002-2005 Parish Administrator São Pedro e São Paulo in Marera and Director of the Polyvalent Centre; Cofounder of two Non Profit Associations: Kimatsirama – for the prevention and assistance of young people with HIV/AIDS – and Cadeia de Solidariedade – to assist young people in situations of poverty and abandon; 2005-2009 Studies in Portugal, for a Licence in Dogmatic Theology (Universidade Católica Portuguesa), a Licence in Anthropology (Universidade Nova de Lisboa) and a masters in African Studies (Instituto Universitário de Lisboa); 2010-2014 Parish priest at São Paulo and São Jerônimo in Soalpo; Coordinator of Diocesan Pastoral; since 2010 Dean of diocesan priests in Chimoio.
At present he is parish priest of the Cathedral, Episcopal Vicar Central Zone, a member of the diocesan Council of Presbyters ; Secretary of the Bishops’ Episcopal Commission for culture, docent of Anthropology at the Catholic University of Mozambique. (SL) (Agenzia Fides 7/12/2018)
