ASIA/INDIA - Appointment of Coadjutor Bishop of Dibrugarh

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) – The Holy Father Francis on 2 December 2018 appointed Coadjutor of the diocese of Dibrugarh (India), Rev. Albert Hemrom of the clergy of Dibrugarh, Judicial Vicar of the See and Rector of Dibrugarh St. Joseph’s Minor Seminary.
The new Bishop was born 27 February 1970 in Konapathar, in the diocese of Dibrugarh. He attended St. Joseph’s Minor Seminary. He then studied philosophy at Christ King College in Shillong and theology at the Oriens Theological College, in Shillong. He obtained a Licence on Canon Law at St. Peter’s Pontifical Institute, in Bangalore, and a Doctorate at the Pontifical Lateran University in Roma. He was ordained a priest on 25 April 1999 for the diocese of Dibrugarh.
Since his ordination he has served as follows: 1999-2001, Parish Vicar of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Rajabari; 2003-2006, Prefect of studies at St. Joseph’s Minor Seminary in Dibrugarh; 2006-2011, Parish priest St. Francis of Assisi Church (Rajabari) and Visiting Professor at Oriens Theological College in Shillong; since 2014 Judicial Vicar of the diocese of Dibrugarh and Rector of St. Joseph’s Minor Seminary. He has also been a member of the College of Consultants, College of priests and Secretary of the Diocesan Laity and Family Commission. (SL) (Agenzia Fides 3/12/2018)
