ASIA/VIETNAM - The Pope appoints auxiliary Bishop of Bùi Chu

Vatican City (Fides Service) - The Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI on 29 November 2005 appointed auxiliary Bishop of the diocese of Bùi Chu in Viêt Nam, Rev. Pierre Nguyen Van De, S.D.B., Professor at Hà Noi major seminary assigning to him the titular see of Ammaedara.
Rev. Pierre Nguyen Van De, S.D.B., was born on 15 January 1946 at Tri Buu, Quang Tri, archdiocese of Hué. He studied philosophy in Hong Kong (1965-1968) and theology at the pontifical seminary in Đà Lat (1970-1974). He took religious vows as a member of the Salesian Society of St John Bosco on 15 August 1965 and was ordained a priest on 17 December 1973.
Since then he has been: (1976-1979) novice master; (1979-1991) parish priest at Xuan Hiep, Thu Due, Hôchiminhville archdiocese; (1992-1997) Provincial Superior; (1997-2000) director of the S.D.B. school of theology.
