Buenos Aires (Agenzia Fides) - Caritas Argentina is carrying out a national campaign in view of its annual collection for the needy, inviting to express solidarity through a concrete gesture that effectively helps transform the lives of many families and communities. According to information sent to Fides, this year's collection will take place on Saturday 10 and Sunday, 11 June, and will be animated by the motto "If you look at the other as your brother, no one can be excluded", a phrase inspired by the Pope's reflection to civil society, pronounced in San Francisco Church in Quito, Ecuador.
In more than 3,500 parishes, chapels and missionary centers, through the work of 32,000 volunteers, Caritas Argentina promotes, coordinates and organizes the charitable pastoral care of the Catholic Church, trying to give concrete answers to the problems of poverty, dignity and social justice.
According to recent studies, the number of poor people in Argentina has now reached 13 million, out of 43 million people. The crisis, mainly due to inflation, dramatically affects children. A study carried out by the Participatory Research Center for Economic and Social Policy (Cippes) shows that half of children and teenagers in the country live below the poverty line (see Fides 19/5/2017).
