ASIA/INDONESIA - Appointment of the Archbishop of Semarang

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) – On March 18, 2017 the Holy Father appointed Rev. Robertus Rubiyatmoko, Judicial Vicar of the Archdiocese of Semarang and Formator at the Major Seminary, as Archbishop of Semarang (Indonesia).
Rev. Robertus Rubiyatmoko was born on October 10, 1963 in Sleman, in the Archdiocese of Semarang. He entered St. Petrus Canisius Minor Seminary in Mertoyudan and then completed his philosophical and theological studies at the Pontifical Faculty in Yogyakarta. He was ordained a priest on August 12, 1992 for the Archdiocese of Semarang.
He has held the following offices: 1992-1993: vicar of the Saint Mary of the Assumption parish in Pakem; 1993-1997: Studies in canon law from the Pontifical Gregorian University, Rome, where he resided in the Pontifical Dutch College lecturer; Since 1998: Professor of canon law at the Pontifical Wedabhakti Faculty of Theology in Yogyakarta; Formator in the Saint Paulus Major Seminary in Yogyakarta; 2004-2011: Vice-Dean of the Pontifical Wedabhakti Faculty in Yogyakarta; since 2011: Judicial Vicar of the Archdiocese of Semarang.
The Archdiocese of Semarang, erected in 1961, has an area of 21,196 square kilometers and a population of 22,837,382 inhabitants, of whom 404,269 are Catholics. There are 98 parishes, 399 priests (203 diocesan and 196 religious), 221 religious and 1,162 nuns and 60 major seminarians. (SL) (Agenzia Fides 20/03/2017)
