AFRICA/SUDAN - Appointment of the Bishop of El Obeid

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On 13 February 2017 the Holy Father appointed Rev. Yunan Tombe Trille Kuku Andali, of the clergy of El Obeid, Rector of Sao Paulo Major Seminary in Juba, as Bishop of the Diocese of El Obeid, Sudan.
Rev. Yunan Tombe Trille Kuku Andali, was born on 1 January 1964 in Tojoro, in the Nuba Mountains Region, Diocese of El Obeid. He completed his secondary education at the Comboni Junior School in El Obeid, then he studied philosophy in Juba and Theology in Khartoum, where he obtained his baccalaureate. He was ordained a priest on 7 April 1991.
Since his ordination he has served the following pastoral and academic roles: 1991-1995: Assistant parish in El Nahud, Nayala, El Fasher and Kadaguli; 1995-2002: Rector of the Minor Seminary in El Obeid; 1997-2002: Vicar General of the Diocese; 2002-2009: Studies for a Licentiate and a Doctorate in canon law at the Catholic University of Nairobi, Kenya; 2009-2012: parish priest at All Saints Parish in Saraf Jamus; since 2012: Rector of the St. Paul Inter-diocesan Seminary in Juba.
The Diocese of El Obeid (1974), is a suffragan of Khartoum. It has an area of 888,938 square kilometers and a population of 9 006 000 inhabitants, of whom 100,000 are Catholics. There are 14 parishes, 30 priests (24 diocesan and 6 religious), 19 religious women and 15 major seminarians. (SL) (Agenzia Fides 17/02/2017)
