Tayabamba (Agenzia Fides) - The province of Pataz is one of the poorest in Peru, situated in the region of La Libertad. According to an estimate by the Ministry of Economy and Finance, 11 districts out of 13 in Pataz fall in the list of the 200 poorest districts in the Country. Despite being the province where most of the mining companies that produce large quantities of gold are concentrated, poverty continues to retard the progress of this population. Local municipal authorities have appealed to the Central Government and the Regional Government of La Libertad for support in the construction of health facilities, schools and road works.
