AFRICA/SOUTH SUDAN - A catechist of Kajo-Keji parish killed

Wednesday, 25 January 2017

Juba (Agenzia Fides) - A catechist of the parish of the Sacred Heart of Kajo-Keji (South Sudan) was killed on Sunday, January 22 in the chapel in the city of Lomin. This was reported by the parish priest, Fr. Jesus Aranda, a Comboni missionary. According to Fr. Aranda, the catechist, of whom we know only the name, Lino, was killed along with five other people by an armed group. The faithful fled the area for fear of further attacks.
Fr. Aranda took possession of the parish on December 3, 2016.
Over 50,000 residents of Kajo-Keji took refuge in neighboring Uganda due to insecurity and attacks on villages in the area, led by the army of South Sudan against those who are deemed hostile to the populations to the central government in Juba. (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 25/01/2017)
