Coahuila (Agenzia Fides) – There is still no news of the priest who went missing last week in Mexico: the diocese of Saltillo, Coahuila (Mexico), informs in a statement that the priest, Joaquin Hernandez Sifuentes has been missing since Tuesday, January 3, 2017. Father Hernandez Sifuentes, said the statement sent to Fides, works at the parish of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Friends tried to call him, but did not answer. On Tuesday morning, January 3, a faithful of the parish saw two men in the priest’s car, but Father Joaquin was not with them, reads the statement.
In checking father Joaquin’s room, the other priests noticed that his suitcase and clothes were in place and the wardrobe was opened. Even his glasses were in the room, glasses that he used for reading and driving. This is why a missing persons report was filed to the Attorney General. The Diocese of Saltillo, after the complaint, asked the authorities to do everything possible to find the priest.
In recent years gang violence in Mexico related to drug trafficking has targeted the religious who raise their voices or openly denounce situations in which the presence of Narcos is obvious. Coahuila has always been a "hot zone" for this reason and priests are victims of this kind of violence when carrying out their ministry. (CE) (Agenzia Fides, 09/01/2017)
