AFRICA/CAMEROON - Appointment of Bishop of Ebolowa

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On 22 October 2016 the Holy Father appointed Rev. Philippe Alain Mbarga, Rector of the Inter-diocesan Major Seminary of Theology in Nkolbisson (Yaoundé) as Bishop of Ebolowa (Cameroon).
Rev. Philippe Alain Mbarga was born on January 28, 1968 in Obout, in the Diocese of Mbalmayo. He studied in his country and in Germany, at the University of Fulda, where he obtained a Doctorate in Biblical Theology in 2003. He was ordained a priest on December 10, 1994 for the Diocese of Mbalmayo.
He has served the following roles: 1994-1996: Studies for a Degree at the Central Africa UCAC University (Yaoundé); 1996-2003: Studies for a Doctorate at the University of Fulda; since 2003: Professor of Sacred Scripture at the University of Central Africa; 2003-2005: Particular Secretary of the Rector of the University of Central Africa; 2005-2008: Rector of the Preparatory Seminary and Inter-diocesan Major Seminary of Philosophy Marie Reine des Apôtres of Otélé, Yaoundé; since 2008: Rector of the Inter-diocesan Major Seminary of Theology Notre Dame de l'Immaculée Conception of Nkolbison, Yaounde. He is also the Secretary of the Commission for Apostolic Societies within the National Episcopal Conference of Cameroon (CENC). (SL) (Agenzia Fides 24/10/2016)
