Erbil (Agenzia Fides) - The beatification of the Chaldean martyrs, pastoral and charitable interventions in favor of the displaced, the phenomenon of the emigration of Christians and the choice of the new Chaldean Bishop for the Diocese of St. Peter the Apostle in San Diego (USA): are some of the issues on the agenda in the next, upcoming Synod of the Chaldean Church, to be held in Erbil, capital of the autonomous region of Iraqi Kurdistan, from September 21 to 28. The Chaldean Patriarchate issued a statement calling the Chaldean faithful around the world to pray to the Lord to "enlighten the Synodal Fathers" and help them to carry out fruitful work.
"The beatifications we have started to talk about" refers to Agenzia Fides Chaldean Patriarch Louis Rapael I, "are those of the martyrs of the 'Assyrian Chaldean Genocide', which took place a century ago in the territories of the current Turkey, which also include also three Bishops. But we have to also consider the most recent martyrs, such as Bishop and priest Ragheed Aziz Ganni, Sister Cecilia Moshi Hanna and Archbishop Paulos Faraj Rahho (in the photo), who led the Archeparchy of Mosul. But we will also talk of other issues, such as the liturgical renewal and the future of the Nineveh Plain".
On September 25, always in Erbil, a major conference of the Chaldean League will also be held, the organization - strongly supported by Chaldean Patriarch Louis Raphael I - established in July 2015 as a tool to safeguard "social, political and cultural rights", of the Chaldean community. In the statement released by the Chaldean Patriarchate, and sent to Agenzia Fides, reiterates that the Chaldean League "is an autonomous body, not affiliated to any political party and to any financial group".
