La Rioja (Agenzia Fides) - Thousands of faithful from all over the Country and the world filled the chapel dedicated to "Monsignor Enrique Angelelli", in order to attend mass celebrated 40 years after the murder of Bishop Angelelli. Sunday’s celebration - presided by the Apostolic Nuncio, Archbishop Emil Paul Tscherrig and by the Bishop of La Rioja, His Exc. Mgr. Marcelo Colombo - saw the participation of numerous faithful who listened to the testimonies of those present, including the governor who recalled the words of the Bishop: "always listen to the people and the Gospel".
Mgr. Enrique Angelelli (1923-1976), Bishop of the Diocese of La Rioja, was one of the most famous Bishops of the Country, contrary to dictatorship. He died in a car crash, shortly after the establishment of the military dictatorship. After 38 years, on July 4, 2014, two senior officers were sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of the Bishop. For decades the authorities had claimed that his death was accidental. In 2015 the diocesan phase of the cause of beatification was opened. (See Fides 29/07/2016). (CE) (Agenzia Fides, 02/08/2016)
