Maranhão (Agenzia Fides) - His Exc. Mgr. Esmeraldo Barreto de Farias, Auxiliary Bishop of São Luís do Maranhão and President of the National Missionary Council (Comina), invites all Missionary Childhood and Adolescence groups (IAM) of Brazil to celebrate their Fourth national Day, on Sunday, May 29.
Founded in France on May 19, 1843, in Brazil, IAM has more than 30,000 groups and the National Day proposes, in dioceses and parishes, a special celebration that includes the consecration of children and missionary adolescents during the coronation of the image of the Virgin and delivery of the emblem of the IAM.
The Church in Brazil is engaged in a very complex reality: there has been a new alarm recently regarding the fate of the many street children who lose their lives in a violent manner. There is talk of dozens of minors killed every day, especially in the suburbs of large cities. Only recently the phenomenon, unfortunately not new, has reached the attention of the local press and television. At the end of 2015, according to the Federal Council of Medicine Data (CFM), there were more than 250,000 unreported cases of missing children in Brazil. A major cause is human trafficking.
